extensions should become necessary, a supplementary catch-

water may be constructed to collect water between the 1,000

and 700 feet levels on the slopes above mentioned, and thus

bring in another 1,300 acres.

We estimate, therefore, that 8 M.D.G. in excess of

the requirements of 1945 may be obtained by catchwater

extensions to the Shing Mun Scheme and possibly more if the

supplementary catchwater be constructed or sufficient for a

further eleven years if the annual increments assumed are not

exceeded.

We have analysed the stream flow records obtained

during four years by the automatic recorder on the Shing Mun,

with the view to ascertain the economic capacity of catch-

waters, and have come to the conclusion that there is no

necessity to make these of greater capacity than is represented

by 0°4 in. of run-off per hour, and it is upon this basis that

the catchwaters have been estimated for the Shing Mun exten-

sions.

Mr. Henderson has referred to the unfavourable

further expenditure on investigations for this reservoir.
